The
Illinois Campus Law Enforcement Administrators met at Bradley University
on Friday January 28th 2005. We had a good turn-out and a very successful
meeting. A copy of the minutes will be sent for your review.
One of the main topics discussed at the meeting was the Associations
current financial status. The cost of running our organization has
increased over the last few years due to the Web Page and expenses for
attending various meetings for State Committees that our Association is
represented. The members present discussed the need for a dues increase.
The dues for our Association have not been increased in at least 12 years.
Since we had a quorum of paid members, a motion was made to increase the
yearly dues from $35.00 to $55.00. The motion was seconded and passed.
To go along with a dues increase, we also identified how our money is
spent for our Association to be represented at the various State
Committees. We have determined that this is a good expenditure of our
Associations resources, but there does need to be a limit on these
expenses. A limit of $750.00 was agreed as a realistic amount to spend for
this initiative.
We would also like to investigate the idea of a “Supporting Members”
category. This would be Businesses that would pay an annual fee and be
given a copy of our mailing list, not e-mail or phone numbers, and be
allowed one 15 minute presentation per year to our Association. We will
discuss this idea at our next meeting.
In the past, once a school paid for membership, they have always been
included in mailings, e-mails, and given information. Our Association has
had as many as 56 members, but dues were paid by only 28 schools last
year. The Executive Committee is forming a group to initiate a Membership
Campaign. Only paying members will be included in mailings and be allowed
access to the Members Only section of our Web Page. A brochure
highlighting our Association is also being created to increase our name
recognition and draw new members. We feel that with the dues increase, a
Membership Campaign, and exploring the idea of supporting members our
Association can continue to move forward.
